Reds fighting for lost cause: AFP chief

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 26): Reds fighting for lost cause: AFP chief

The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) has no real achievement to be proud of as its members are fighting for a lost cause despite celebrating their 50th founding anniversary Wednesday, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal said.

"Again, as far as we are concerned, the CPP-NPA has no reason to celebrate and no achievements to be proud of. We are reminding them that their options remain the same: we are ready to accept them, and they can avail of the benefits of 'balik-loob' or they might just die for a lost cause," Madrigal said in a statement issued to the media.

The NPA, the rebel group's armed wing, is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States and European Union.

Madrigal said the series of attacks by the rebels in the past few weeks is a clear indication of the CPP-NPA's desperation.

"The communist terrorists continue to conduct atrocious attacks for the past few weeks and their actions are only proving how helpless and desperate they have become, especially now that they have lost more than 11,500 cadres in 2018,” he added.

The AFP said majority of surrenders can be attributed to NPA members who finally understood that they are not fighting for the Filipino people, but for their selfish leaders who use them to extort money and demonize the government.
