AYUNGON, Negros Oriental – A suspected member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) was killed in an encounter with members of the Army’s 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion at Sitio Nabali-an, Barangay Carol-an, Ayungon Negros Oriental, morning of October 18, 2018.

The alleged rebel was identified as alias “Dagul” based on a report from the 303rd Brigade of the Philippine Army said.


His body has been turned over to the Ayungon Municipal Police Station.

The encounter also resulted in the recovery of two backpacks, two hand-held radios with charger, two magazines of AK-47 rifle with live ammunitions, two rifle grenades, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Egberto O Dacoscos, 62IB Commanding Officer, they received and acted upon a report from a concerned citizen about the presence of more or less 15 armed persons in the areas.

They were met with gunfire as they approached the area, prompting the soldiers to retaliate.

The firefight lasted for about 40 minutes, which resulted in the death of the Dagul and wounded two 62IB soldiers.
