From the Manila Bulletin (Aug 29): NPA attacks Iloilo hydro power plant site
Iloilo City — Communist rebels New People’s Army (NPA) attacked the site for a mini-hydro power plant in Igbaras town, Iloilo province.
According to a report coming from Police Regional Office (PRO-6), NPA rebels stormed the power plant of Century Peak Energy Corp. in Icabugao village Wednesday afternoon.
When the incident report reached authorities, soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion (61 IB) responded. A 10-minute firefight ensued between government troops and the NPA rebels until they withdrew.
The incident injured Sheila Mae Esteves, an employee of the power plant that is undergoing construction. Esteves was hit in her thigh and was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Meanwhile, a hot pursuit operation is underway.
