A manhunt has been launched by Tacurong City police and military forces against two men who shot dead a Maguindanao town councilor while attending a Muslim wedding here Saturday morning, police said.

Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat provincial police office director, said Councilor Norhasim Ulangkaya, 28, of Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao was shot as he entered Lady Shims Restaurant in Barangay Calean at 10:00 a.m.

Another guest, Norma Karatuan, 52 of Barangay Dalagdagan, Mangudadatu town, also in Maguindanao, was hit by stray bullets.

They were rushed to St. Louis Hospital but Ulangkaya was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians. Karatuan was critically injured.

Witnesses told police investigators that the two gunmen were seen at the entrance of the restaurant pretending as guests before the arrival of Ulangkaya.

Ulangkaya arrived at about 10:00 a.m., entered the venue but was shot from behind by one of the two suspects. As the crowd took cover, the suspects fled on board a motorbike.
