Gov’t troops launch offensives vs NPAs in Occidental Mindoro

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 27): Gov’t troops launch offensives vs NPAs in Occidental Mindoro

Military troops of the 4th Infantry Battalion under the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) launched their offensives against an undetermined number of the New People’s Army (NPAs) rebels on Monday in a Patrol Base in Sitio Naibuan, Barangay Batasan in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

In a report reaching this camp here, 1st Lieutenant Xy-son Meneses, 2ID public affairs chief, said the military offensive occurred 9 a.m. Monday following a sniping incident by the rebel group which happened three hours earlier.

Meneses said that while scouring the vicinity, the troops encountered the armed insurgents and the clash lasted for a minute.

No casualty was reported among the government troops while the armed encounter inflicted an undetermined number of casualties on the rebels’ side.

Meneses, however, said the sniping incident slightly wounded Private Carvey C. Bande on his left arm.

Major General Rhoderick Parayno, 2ID commander, assured that the Army will continue to go after the rebels until they stop terror acts against peace-loving civilians and the community.

As of press time, the troops are still conducting pursuit operations in order to track down the fleeing NPA members.
