DFA gets access to Interpol system in fight against terrorism, cross-border criminals

From Update.Ph (Jan 29): DFA gets access to Interpol system in fight against terrorism, cross-border criminals

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has entered into an agreement with Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC)-INTERPOL National Central Bureau Manila. The said agreement gives the DFA direct access to the Interpol Information System.

Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Ariel Abadilla (in behalf of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr.) and PCTC Executive Director Allan Guisihan signed the agreement for DFA and INTERPOL National Central Bureau-Manila, respectively.

DFA said the agreement will enhance the department’s security screening process, particularly in passport and visa services, and to address the growing threat of foreign terrorist fighters (FTF) and other cross-border criminal elements, traveling to and from conflict areas to their target countries using fraudulent or stolen travel documents.

INTERPOL National Central Bureau-Manila, which is under the supervision of PCTC, links the Philippines National Police with INTERPOL global network. INTERPOL NCB serves as contact point for all INTERPOL activities.
