From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 19): Abu Sayyaf bandits open fire on Basilan military encampment

Government forces have strengthened security to prevent a repetition of an attack on a security encampment in Basilan province.

This came after the Abu Sayyaf bandits have fired upon and injured two soldiers and militiamen stationed in Barangay Duga-a, Tuburan, Basilan around 8:20 p.m. Friday.

Insp. Said Ismael, Tuburan police chief, disclosed that the group of Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Abdulla Jhovel who were armed with high-powered firearms were behind the incident.

The identities of the injured soldiers and militiamen were not immediately available.

The soldiers belong to the Army’s 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion.

Troops have been deployed to track down the Abu Sayyaf bandits behind the incident.
