Newly-appointed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya said the military's internal war
fighting capability will rebuilt in line with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's
emphasis on neutralizing internal security threats and crime.
"Our military initiatives will also be re-focused on
rebuilding our internal war fighting capabilities to run after internal
security threats and support law enforcement operations," he stressed in
his assumption speech Friday.
Visaya said the AFP will be unrelenting in its focused
military operations against terrorist groups like the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG)
and all its allied terrorist cells.
"We will realign military resources to their identified
bailiwicks and sanctuaries and apply our military strength to suppress them,
hunt them down and finish them," he added.
The newly-appointed AFP chief said the military will
continue to apply the full force of the law "24/7" to go after these
criminals and profit-seeking elements who operate under the guise of religious
fervor and holy war.
