3 wounded, hundreds flee as clashes erupt in Maguindanao town

From InterAksyon (Mar 31): 3 wounded, hundreds flee as clashes erupt in Maguindanao town

Hundreds of people fled their homes as clashes erupted early Thursday morning in Pagalungan town, Maguindanao, leaving at least three of the combatants wounded, police said.

Pagalungan police chief, Senior Inspector Blayn Lomas-e, said fighting broke out between the groups led by Edzing Daguiaman and Makakena Kasim around 5:30 a.m. in Barangay Damalasak, sending residents evacuating to the town center.

Reports said Daguiaman and Kasim have long been feuding over land.

Soldiers and policemen have been deployed to act as a buffer between the warring groups.

Lomas-e could not say if either of the two supported candidates in the May 9 elections or if any members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which has units in the town, are embroiled in the feud.

The wounded fighters were rushed to a hospital in Pikit, Cotabato.
