Cauayan residents call for justice, slam killings

From the Visayan Daily Star (Dec 7): Cauayan residents call for justice, slam killings

Outraged by the killing of a member of the Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit, whose death was claimed by the New People's Army, more than 600 individuals staged a protest in Cauayan town Saturday to call for justice and condemn the brutal killing.

The killing of CAFGU member Romualdo “Nene” Dollente in Cauayan on November 30 was claimed by the NPA Armando Sumayang Command.

The indignation rally is also a call for vigilance against lawless elements that threaten the peace and security of the community, Lt. Col. Harold Anthony Pascua, 79th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Pascua lamented what he called deceitful tactics of the NPA, as Dollente was mercilessly killed in a non-combat mode and clad in civilian clothes.

He vowed to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators, so that justice be served to the family of Dollente who dedicated his life for democracy.

Dollente left behind his wife, Aidalyn, and six siblings.

Rebel spokesperson Andrea Guerrero justified killings not only of Dollente but also ex-CAFGU member Rene Villar, Jojo Grande and Jose Siplao, who used to be NPA members, claiming that they were either involved in illegal activities, and or were military informants.
