NPA belongings recovered in Masbate

From the Philippine Star (Nov 24): NPA belongings recovered in Masbate

Army soldiers recovered an M16 rifle, an improvised explosive device and a generator set following a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Monreal, Masbate on Sunday.

The troopers of the Army’s 9th Infantry Batallion encountered at least 15 armed rebels at the boundary of the villages of MacArthur and Malambong, according to Col. Cesar Idio, chief of the 903rd Brigade based in Castilla, Sorsogon.

Idio said no soldier was hurt in the firefight while the Army believes the rebels suffered casualties.

Citing intelligence reports, Idio said there were at least 41 communist rebels operating in Sorsogon and Masbate.

He said the military pursued the fleeing rebels and the municipal police set up roadblocks in Barangay Real to prevent the rebels from leaving the town.
