Cops seize grenade from motorcycle rider in North Cotabato

From GMA News (Nov 22): Cops seize grenade from motorcycle rider in North Cotabato

Authorities arrested a motorcycle rider for possession of a grenade early Sunday.

Superintendent John Meridel Calinga, city police director, identified the suspect as Mark Garde Villamor, 35, of Barangay Poblacion, Matalam, North Cotabato.

Calinga said the suspect yielded a fragmentation grenade, the same type of explosive used in recent attacks in North Cotabato.

Three grenades attacks took place last week in Kabacan town, where six people were wounded.

Calinga said the suspect was on board his motorcycle when policemen manning a checkpoint along the highway in Barangay Balindog flagged him down at around 1:30 a.m.

He said the grenade was placed inside the suspect’s sling bag.

Villamor was immediately placed under police custody while charges are being prepared against him.

City Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the arrest of Villamor was part of the local government's efforts to ensure public safety.

Evangelista said they will install 150 pieces of 250-watt sodium street lights around the city, particularly in crime-prone areas.
