Philippine Marine Corps commandant Major Gen. Romeo Tanalgo
was appointed as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vice chief-of-staff
replacing Lt. Gen. John S. Bonafos who will be retiring Monday after reaching
the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Tanalgo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class
of 1983, will assume Bonafos' position Friday.
The outgoing AFP vice chief-of-staff is a member of the PMA
Class of 1982.
"Following the Commander-in-Chief's approval, the Armed
Forces of the Philippines
announces the appointment of Major Gen. Romeo Tanalgo as the incoming Vice
Chief of Staff, AFP,"said AFP spokesman Col. Restituto Padilla.
"Major Gen. Tanalgo will also remain as the incumbent
Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps until such time that his replacement
is named," he added.
Padilla said the new AFP vice chief-of-staff is a dedicated
and seasoned Marine officer who has served with distinction in all his previous
assignments.
