From the Philippine Information Agency (Sep 3): Social Services Committee Supports 701st Brigade “Project Shoebox”

Last September 2, 2015 the Social Services Sub-Committee in partnership with the Provincial Government Office conducted a turn-over ceremony of school supplies to 701st Infantry Brigade held at Headquarters, 701st Infantry Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based at Sitio Magay, Don Martin Marundan, Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Sarah Gudes, Chairperson of Sub-Committee on Social Services together with representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), DSWD, and CSWDO handed over the school supplies to Col Bienvenido R Datuin Jr, 701st Brigade Commander and M Feliciano A. Tamondong, Superintendent, Department of Education, Davao Oriental. The school supplies were broken down as follows: 425 pcs of Backpack, 500 pads of Papers (Grade 1, 2, 3, & 4), 2, 125 pcs of Notebooks (120 leaves), 325 pcs of Ballpens, 425 pcs of Sharpeners, 425 boxes of Crayons, 425 pairs of Scissors, 25 pairs of Slippers, 425 pcs of Toothbrush, 425 tubes of Paste and 425 sets of Colored Papers.

 The beneficiaries of the said school supplies are schools in the farflung areas of Cateel District, namely: Yapsay Elementary School at Sitio Paglusngan, Brgy. Taytayan; Sabangan Elementary School at Sitio Maylaya Brgy. Malibago; and Baganga District such as: Tigbawan and Mantapay Elementary School in Brgy. Binondo. A total of 425 students will benefit from this project.

“Much to our desire in supporting the 701st Brigade “Project Shoebox”, we would like to express our gratitude for tapping us to continue our services to the students of elementary schools especially in the farflung areas of Baganga and Cateel Districts of the East Coast” Ms. Sarah Gudes said.

“In behalf of Gov. Cora Malanyaon, we are thankful and grateful to the 701st Brigade for their continuous support in attaining peace in the Province of Davao Oriental. We hope that we will be joining hand in hand to have a comprehensive peace development program in our province”, Ms. Gudes added.

“It is the department’s commitment to ensure that no learners shall be left behind. A commitment to provide education that is free for all. Aimed to ensure in attaining the peace and development to strengthen the partnership between the government, stakeholders and as well as all types of learning environment”,  Mr Tamondong said.

“We, would like also to thank the uniformed men for initiating this project and to Governor Malanyaon for her unending support,” Mr Tamondong added.

Ltc Banua, Commander, 67th Infantry Battalion said, “CNN School Offensive are currently conducting mass recovery through the schools. Students and parents have been brain washed. With this “Project Shoebox”, we want to show the people that we have the best services to offer even in the remotest area. I wish that this will be a continuous project and just the start of the many services that the government can give to our people.”

“With the strong partnership of the different stakeholders, the Local Government Units, other Civilian Sectors and Uniformed Men, I can say that this “Project Shoebox” is really successful.
