An alleged secretary-general of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Panay Island who was arrested over the weekend by joint teams of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is facing cases with no bail recommended.

Maria Concepcion Araneta Bocala, 64, also known as “Concha/Meryl/Etang/Martha“ was arrested at about 6:15 a.m. at her temporary residence in Juntado Subdivision, Brgy. Calumpang, Molo, Iloilo City.

She was arrested based on a warrant of arrest for the crime of murder and rebellion.

Police Chief Superintendent Bernardo A. Diaz, Regional Director of PRO6, said that authorities have been looking for Bocala for almost two decades.

Bocala was allegedly the CPP-NPA-NDF secretary general of Komiteng Rehiyon Panay and listed in the joint DND/DILG Reward list #14-2012 dated November 12, 2012 with PHP7.8 million reward money.

During Bocala's arrest, authorities seized from the suspect’s premises one unit each of fragmentation grenade, caliber 45 pistol, 22 caliber pistol, binocular and laptop; assorted ammos, 13 cellphones and nine external PC hard drives with floppy disk.

The subject was in the company of her nephew Joseph Bocala Cariaga and Annielyn Soldevilla during the arrest.

The arrested top NPA leader is now under the custody of CIDG6 for proper disposition.
