Suspected communist rebels have seized 4 tribal leaders in
the southern Philippine province of Davao del Norte, the military said
Saturday.
The Eastern Mindanao Command accused the New People’s Army
of abducting Datu Danilo Angcomog, Datu Laris Landakay, Datu Jovanie Angcomog;
and Datu Kalumpot Dalon at Sitio Bulo in the village of Dagohoy
in Talaingod town.
Capt. Alberto Caber, an army spokesman, said the tribal
leaders, who are natives of San
Fernando town in Bukidnon province, were settling a
feud between two warring groups when gunmen seized them for a still unknown
reason.
He said soldiers from the 68th Infantry Battalion
were sent to help local authorities in the search for the victims.
Other tribal leaders have appealed to the abductors for the
safe release of the men and it was unknown whether their disappearance was
connected to tribal war. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the
abductions.
