From ABS-CBN (Feb 21): 7 NPA rebels killed in Sarangani clash

Seven fighters of communist New People's Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with soldiers from the Army's 73rd Infantry Battalion on Monday in Alabel, Sarangani province, the military said Friday.

Five of the seven were identified as leaders in different levels of Guerilla Front 71.

The fatalities are:
  1. Tolentino Bariquit alias Kumander Brigol, deputy secretary and political officer
  2. Alias JM – team leader and logistics officer
  3. Alias Jonas/Batot – team leader
  4. Alias Lieutenant – vice team leader
  5. Alias Mark – medic
  6. Angelica Sua alias ka Juday – medic
  7. Alyas Monet – new recruit
Major Alben Naval, executive officer of 73rd IB, said government troops patrolling the area after they received reports about armed men.

A firefight ensued for more than 8 hours between the two sides. Naval said two NPA members were also captured during the encounter.

The two are undergoing interrogation, he said.

Recovered at the encounter site were 6 M-16 rifles, 2 AK-47s, and a baby Armalite.
