More than a hundred families fled their homes in a village of Pikit, North Cotabato after followers of two feuding commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front clashed.

Colonel Dickson Hermoso said a number of houses in Barangay Bulol have also burned down as a result of the fighting between the men of Commander Makalugi of the MILF’s general staff and Commander Solaiman of the group’s “national guard post,” which has left at least one person dead and two others wounded.

The fighting in Bulol has also affected residents in nearby villages and disrupted farming and fishing, Hermoso added.

The Pikit local government, MILF central committee and the military are working to forge a truce between the warring groups.
