From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 9): 2,300 Filipino, American Marines to participate in 'PHIBLEX'

Around 2,300 Filipino and American Marines will be participating in the "Amphibious Landing Exercises 2014" (PHIBLEX) this coming Sept. 29 to Oct. 10.

"PHIBLEX is combined exercise with the Philippine Marine Corps and US Marine Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC). The exercise aims to advance the Philippine and US militaries relationship; build combined capacity for command and control, combined arms amphibious operations, mechanized, special, and logistic support operations," said Navy public affairs office chief Lt. Cmdr. Marineth Domingo.

The activities also aims to improve interoperability and combat readiness of Philippine and US forces.

Domingo added that PHIBLEX also seeks to enhance security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region.

"(PHIBLEX aims) to improve interoperability and combat readiness of the participating forces, and of course enhance security cooperation in the region," she added.

PHIBLEX is the third war games the Philippines conducts with the US. The other two are "Balikatan" and CARAT (cooperation, afloat, readiness and training).
