Government troops successfully disarmed an improvised explosive device planted near the municipal hall of Maguindanao’s capital town, Shariff Aguak Friday evening.
Colonel Jener del Rosario, commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade, said they believe the explosive was planted by fighters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, which broke away from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The bomb was found just hours after government forces seized a BIFF arms cache and captured one of its fighters in Rajah Buayan town.
Shariff Aguak Mayor Bai Zahara Upam Ampatuan expressed alarm over the discovery of the IED, which happened a few days after gunmen strafed the old Maguindanao provincial capitol, also in the town.
