From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 6): NPA killed in Bukidnon clash

A suspected communist guerrilla of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed as fresh fighting erupted anew in the mountain range of Bukidnon this week, the military reported on Thursday.

Capt. Christian Uy, the spokesperson of the Army’s Public Affairs Division here, said that the lone casualty was among the 15 communist guerrillas encountered by the government troopers in the hinterlands of Talakag, Bukidnon last Monday afternoon.

Uy said that the government troopers also recovered an AK-47 assault rifle believed used by the unidentified rebel who was killed in the 15-minute running gun battle with the government troopers.

He said that the elements of the Army’s 403rd brigade in Bukidnon have launched pursuit operations against the remaining rebels who fled toward the direction North of Bukidnon.

According to Uy, the armed encounter occurred when the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion was conducting combat patrol in the vicinity of the mountain range in Lantapan, Pangantucan, and Baungon, all of Talakag, Bukidnon in response to complaints of farmers about the reported extortion activities of the communist rebels in the area.
