From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 24): Rebel, Army trooper killed in Surigao Del Norte clash

A New People's Army (NPA) fighter was killed along with a government trooper following an encounter in Barangay Alipao, Alegria town,Surigao Del Norte Saturday afternoon.

Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said that their troopers were on routine security patrol when they met the rebel force around 12:20 p.m.

In the 25-minute clash, a rebel fighter was killed while a trooper died.

Recovered from the slain rebel were two improvised explosive devices.

Caber said that pursuit operations are still ongoing against the rebel force which are believed to be under the NPA's Front 16.
