Farmers and peasants hit Aquino for anti-poor policies and programs

From the Manila Standard Today (Oct 17): Farmers and peasants hit Aquino for anti-poor policies and programs

ANGLES CITY,  Pampanga — Farmers and peasant groups in central Luzon denounced the anti-land reform policies of President Aquino on Wednesday and said he was the cause of their continuing state of poverty.

The Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luson (AMGL) and the Anakpawis Party-list said they are marking the World Food Day of the United Nations as World “Hunger” Day.

“World Food Day is celebrated here. Ironically, Aquino’s programs … are direct threats to the country’s food security,” said Joseph Canlas, AMGL chairperson.

The AMGL and the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) held a rally outside the Department of Agriculture in Quezon City on Tuesday to protest the “systematic hunger” in the country.

The protesters blamed the anti-farmer programs of the Aquino administration as the cause of their hunger. They listed these programs as the Comprehensive Reform Program, the Public-Private Partnership and liberalization of agriculture, mining, and land-use conversion.

“The conversions of productive agricultural lands to other unproductive uses, like Aquino’s anti-land reform policies at Hacienda Luisita …pose a real danger to farmers and other sectors because it undermines our food security,” Canlas said.

  1. This is CPP front group activity. Anakpawis Party List, AMGL, and KMP are all CPP front organizations.

The membership of the Anakpawis Party-List political party comes mainly from the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU--May One Movement labor front and the Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY--Organization of the Urban Poor and Unemployed), a front that purports to represent the interests of the urban poor.

The Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luson (AMGL--Alliance of Peasants in Central Luzon) is a CPP peasant front active in Central Luzon. The group has close ties to the KMP.

The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP--Peasant Movement of the Philippines) is the main CPP peasant front. KMP is a charter member of the main CPP umbrella front organization Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN--New Patriotic Alliance).

CPP front organizations often exploit national and international holidays/key dates, such as the UN World Food Day mentioned in the above article, as part of their ongoing agitation-propaganda (agit-prop) activities.
