NGCP tower toppled in BIFF attack

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 2): NGCP tower toppled in BIFF attack

A Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) bombing attack has resulted in the toppling of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) transmission tower at Km 14, Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao Sunday night.

Col. Dickson Hermoso, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the incident took place around 9 p.m.

Knocked down was NGCP Tower No. 168 which is located at the above-mentioned vicinity.

Hermoso said that this resulted in the massive blackout in Cotabato City and adjoining cities.

He added that power was only restored around 3 a.m. Monday.

Responding military units recovered improvised explosive device fragments in the blast site.

Hermoso said that all four legs of the tower was destroyed in the explosion.

Post blast investigations and pursuit operations were still ongoing.

No one was reported injured nor killed in this latest round of BIFF atrocity which aims to disrupt the ongoing peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

This is not the first attack on the NGCP tower in Sultan Kudarat town, stressing that the military managed to foil the Aug. 19 bombing raid of the BIFF.
