Army chief Lt. Gen. Joel Coballes will be visiting the headquarters of a military battalion in Compostela Valley on Wednesday to recognize the act of heroism shown by soldiers who foiled a rebel attack on April 25 in Nabunturan.

According to Major Maria Rosa Manuel, deputy commander of the 10th Civil-Military Operations Battalion, Coballes will be heading to Barangay Cabinuangan, New Bataan, Compostela Valley, the camp of 66th Infantry Battalion, to honor battalion commander Lt. Col. Michael Logico and his men for gallantry.

“He will personally recognize the act of heroism displayed by the troops of 66th IB in the recent encounter with NPAs in Nabunturan,” Manuel said in a text message.

She said a rebel died on the spot during the encounter while another expired at the hospital while undergoing treatment for three days.

The troops also recovered six high-powered firearms (five M16 Armalite rifles and one M14 assault rifle), she said.
