CPP/KM: Statement on the 48th Anniversary of Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth)--Youth, participate in armed revolution!

Posted to the CPP Website (Nov 30): Pahayag para sa Ika-48 na Anibersaryo ng KABATAANG MAKABAYAN--Kabataan, lumahok sa armadong rebolusyon! (Statement on the 48th Anniversary of Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth)--Youth, participate in armed revolution!)

[Rough translation of the lead paragraph of the KM statement]

[Revolutionary greetings to the true children of the people, members and leaders of the revolutionary youth Kabataang Makabayan (KM--Patriotic Youth) on the 48th anniversary celebration of KM across the country. Dear comrades, we salute the revolutionary martyrs of KM and those who offered their lives, energy and talent for advancing the national democratic revolution with a socialist perspective. Without their sacrifice the revolutionary movement could not have reached its current strength. Their contributions will serve as a light in darkness as the nation continues to expect liberation from imperialist plunder and local ruling class cohorts.....]

  1. The KM is an undergound sectoral front organizaton targeting Filipino youth and is a member of the political wing of the CPP, the National Democratic Front. Its corresponding above ground, legal counterpart is the League of Filipino Students (LFS), the radical student front associated with the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN-New Patriotic Alliance). BAYAN is the legal counterpart to the National Democratic Front. If memory serves, Jose Maria Sison (the founder and chairman-in-exile of the CPP) was the founding chairman of the KM back in the 1960s.
