Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City- November 13, 2020A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group was killed in the intensified operations launched by the military in Basilan early morning, Friday, November 13, 2020.
Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said that composite forces of the intelligence and operations units and the 64th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force Basilan conducted a raid operation targeting Hasid Salajim, a.k.a. Boyron/Pilay in Barangay Etub-Etub, Sumisip, Basilan Province.
“Upon reaching the area, the subject immediately fired upon our dismounting troops. Our soldiers were forced to return fire which resulted in the death of Salajim,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.
Recovered from the said personality’s possession was one M16 rifle.
JTF Basilan Commander Col. Domingo Gobway said that Hasid Salajim is a member of the ASG under sub-leader Pasil Bayali, a.k.a. Kera.
“He is the 7th ASG member killed during an encounter within the year. Since January 2020 to date, our unit has neutralized a total of 37 Abu Sayyaf Group members wherein seven were killed, 28 surrendered, and two were apprehended,” Col. Gobway said.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. lauded the troops of the Joint Task Force Basilan for the successful operation.
“This success would not be possible if not for the swift reaction of the troops and the help of the intelligence operatives and the community,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr, added.
