Makabayan bloc can’t deny NPA recruitment: group

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 1, 2020): Makabayan bloc can’t deny NPA recruitment: group (By Lade Jean Kabagani)

STOP YOUTH RECRUITMENT. Anti-communist groups and other civil society organizations alongside parents of student activists who were reportedly recruited by various progressive groups gather outside the Senate halls on Tuesday (Nov. 24, 2020) to denounce the atrocities and deceptive recruitment schemes committed by the CPP-NPA-NDF to minors. The groups also protested against the 52 years of insurgency, maltreatment, and inhumane abuses of the NPA cadres against their members. (PNA photo by Avito Dalan)

An anti-communist group on Monday said it is not convinced that the Makabayan bloc is not a front organization of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

The League of Parents of the Philippines (LPP), in a statement, railed against the claims of the Makabayan bloc that they were just "red-tagged."

The anti-communist groups cited the "tons of evidence" pointing out the alleged involvement of the Makabayan bloc to disappearances of students who were reportedly recruited by its member organizations and were later on exposed to the communist revolution in the mountains.

In a recent Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation hearing on red-tagging, former cadres and members of the CPP-NPA have exposed the recruitment process of the rebel group using its legal-front organization.

The former NPA members have also confirmed the ties between the CPP-NPA and the organizations allied with the Makabayan bloc.

According to the former NPA members, 90 percent of communist cadres were recruited from schools and universities through the legal front organizations of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

Former cadres also explained the mutual relationship of the legal democratic mass movement with the revolutionary underground mass movement.

LPP chair Remy Rosadio slammed Makabayan for repeatedly denying that it does not have links with the CPP-NPA-NDF.

"How could it be that red-tagging is the issue when the former NPAs are saying they were actually recruited by these organizations of the Makabayan bloc before becoming rebels?," the groups said.

‘You should help in protecting children’

Rosadio reiterated calls of parents to end the recruitment of the youth to become members of the NPA.

"The Makabayan bloc is part of the government. They should help in protecting our children. But they are going against it, they are destroying the government using the vulnerability of our children. It must stop now!" Rosadio said.

Meanwhile, LPP spokesperson Arlene Escalante said members of the Makabayan bloc were just orchestrating scenes to get more sympathy from the public "which is obviously underrated."

"I think what they were planning to do by not attending the first Senate hearing was to create a dramatic presentation for the next one. But all they've accomplished after reading their boring scripts—and (Rep. Sarah) Elago with her crocodile tears—was to get caught in their own web of lies," she said.

During the Senate hearing, Escalante said they noticed that the statements of members of the Makabayan bloc were contradicting each other.

"When one said they're not recruiting students into the armed struggle, one was saying student militants are first targets for NPA recruitment! Unbelievable!," Escalante said.

The groups said the Senate probe on red-tagging will serve as an eye-opener for the public about the recruitment schemes conducted by the groups.

"One good thing that came out of this hearing was that their incoherence and deception were exposed to the Filipino people and now we all know better," Escalante added.

The Makabayan bloc has continued to deny their ties with the CPP-NPA-NDF, saying it pushes for legitimate concerns and interests of the people.

As the Senate hearing on the issue of red-tagging resumes Tuesday, the groups are set to stage a picket rally outside the Senate's gate premises, to call for the resignation of the Makabayan bloc members.

Not red-tagging, we are identifying you, PRRD to CPP-NPA fronts

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 1, 2020): Not red-tagging, we are identifying you, PRRD to CPP-NPA fronts (By Azer Parrocha)

GRAND CONSPIRACY. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte talks to the people after holding a meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) core members at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacañang Park, Manila on Nov. 30, 2020. Duterte said the government is not red-tagging but identifying the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army’s legal fronts as members “in a grand conspiracy.” (Presidential photo by Toto Lozano)

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) does not engage in red-tagging leftist lawmakers, President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday night, insisting that the military was actually “identifying” them as legal fronts.

In a taped speech, Duterte said the AFP is “very correct” for
identifying groups like Bayan, Makabayan, and Gabriela as “legal fronts” of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

“Itong mga legal fronts ng komunista, lahat ‘yan (These legal fronts of the communists. All of them) Makabayan, Bayan…they are all legal fronts, Gabriela. We are not red-tagging you. We are identifying you as members in a grand conspiracy comprising all the legal fronts that you have organized headed by NDF [National Democratic Front of the Philippines] tapos yung (then) New People’s Army at Communist Party of the Philippines,” he said.

Duterte said several former CPP-NPA members have openly attacked and criticized communists for the latter’s sheer brutality in this communal war.

“Communal war ito (This is communal war). There is no longer any ideology. Itong mga komunista, wala na ideology (These communists no longer have ideology),” he added.

He said the communists simply wanted to overthrow the government so that they could take over.

“Gusto lang nila umagaw ng gobyerno (They just want to grab power),” he said.

Duterte accused the legal front members, particularly Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Zarate, of accepting money” and “defend an oligarch” but did not elaborate.

“You are friends with the NPA. You co-conspirators. Komunista ka adre, matagal na. Alam ko. Alam ko kasi alam ko (You’ve been a communist for a long time. I know. I know because I know),” he said.

He also attacked CPP-NPA founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison, saying his guerrilla-like ideology claimed the lives of many uniformed personnel.

“Anong nakuha mo diyan sa ideology na communism (What do you get from the ideology of communism)?” he said.

IPs most affected

Duterte said indigenous communities were the most affected by atrocities committed by the CPP-NPA members.

“Ang kawawa dito itong mga pobre na taga-bukid na madadala ninyo (The ones pitiful here are the poor you convince. I think 75 percent, at least in Mindanao, mga Lumad. Kayong mga Lumad, umuwi kayo sabihin ninyo sa mga tao ninyo na niloloko lang sila ng NPA talaga. Parang namatay ang Lumad. (You lumads, go home and tell your people you’re being fooled by NPA. Lumads are being killed). So if this thing goes on, the lumads, yung native na Pilipino talaga (native Filipinos) will become an extinct tribe kung hindi kayo huminto diyan (if you don’t stop),” he said.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Nov. 3 said it would be hypocrisy for the CPP-NPA to say that they do not have legal fronts.

“Kaplastikan po ng CPP-NPA kung sasabihin nilang wala silang mga legal fronts na tinatawag (It is hypocrisy for the CPP-NPA to say that they don’t have what they call legal fronts),” he said.

In a Senate hearing last week, Zarate denied being a member of CPP-NPA and denounced the AFP's red-tagging of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives.

He said Bayan Muna and members of the Makabayan bloc are legitimate groups pushing for meaningful social reforms.

The CPP-NPA-NDF is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Kalinaw News: NPA combatant remains treated with respect, contrary to solon mother’s claims

Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 30, 2020): NPA combatant remains treated with respect, contrary to solon mother’s claims

Children of Rep. Cullamat with the 3SFBn personnel

In a recent statement proliferated by Online News-Media platforms, Bayan-Muna Representative Eufemia Cullamat condemns the Army saying, “Mariin kong kinokondena ang ginawang pambabastos at pambababoy sa labi ng aking anak.” This is in response to the recent news about the Army’s 3rd Special Forces Battalion’s encounter with the NPA’s SYP Platoon, Guerilla Force 19 which led to her daughter, Jevilyn Campos Cullamat’s demise.

Eufemia Cullamat’s initial statement comprises her admission that she knew that her daughter would eventually join the NPA and considers the possibility that one day, she would die a martyr, but a day later, the solon shifted gears and turned to cry wolf on what happened to her daughter and called-out the 3SFBn for an alleged unfair and inhumane treatment of her daughter’s body.

Upon learning of Eufemia Cullamat’s statement, 3SFBn released a detailed description and timeline of how they handled her daughter’s lifeless body that was neglected by the latter’s comrades who fled away from the encounter site.

On November 29, 2020, 6 o’clock in the morning, soldiers from the encounter site jumped-off with Jevilyn’s remains on a stretcher and transferred it to a Casualty Collection Point. From the casualty collection point, the soldiers presented the cadaver to the Brgy Officials of San Isidro for proper identification and documentation at 12:00 noon. No one from the community recognized Jevilyn until she was presented to former rebels from the 401st Brigade at 12:20 noon of the same day. Only then was she confirmed to be the daughter of solon, Eufemia Cullamat. After establishing the cadaver’s identity, a post-mortem exam was conducted.

At 4:00 in the afternoon, Jevilyn’s remains were turned over to her sister Jesrin Cullamat. Her half-sister Jenjen Valle and grandmother were also present to receive her body. Thirty minutes later, soldiers from the 3SFBn escorted the family to Dollete Funeral Homes Barobo for the funeral services. At 09:00 that night, the body was brought to her half-sister’s home at Brgy Banahaw, Lianga, Surigao del Sur where the wake was held.

The following day, the Army coordinated with the town’s Mayor, Novelita Sarmen, for the neutralized rebel’s burial assistance. Commanders and officials of the 401st Infantry Brigade personally visited the wake and extended their condolences. Soldiers facilitated the procurement of financial assistance to settle the funeral expenses of Jevilyn.

After serving as a combatant for the NPA terrorist group, Jevilyn’s body was left to rot at the encounter site. However, military protocol requires soldiers to scour the area for casualties, dead or alive, friend or foe, to tend to their wounds and/or to give the dead ones proper burial in the absence of a claimant. During the course of the first day from the encounter, Jevilyn Cullamat’s body was treated by the Philippine Army the same way as any other NPA member who died in an encounter, with respect.

Public interest have been building up to this day, following a series of Senate Hearing on the affiliations of Bayan Muna, which Rep. Eufemia Cullamat represents, and other Makabayan Bloc Partylists with the terrorist organization NPA. Any public official like Representative Cullamat is subject to public scrutiny especially on the issue of her allegiance with the CPP NPA NDF.

There are series of encounters to which the Philippine Army has neutralized enemy forces and claimed victory over terrorist groups who are trying to wreak havoc, most of the times, within a small vulnerable community. These victories are not claimed by the Philippine Army alone, but with the people victimized by the NPA, and the people the soldiers sworn to protect.

Kalinaw News: Female rebels surrender, Army supports ending VAW Campaign

Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 30, 2020): Female rebels surrender, Army supports ending VAW Campaign

TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur- With the relentless efforts of the 26th Infantry (Ever Onward) Battalion in convincing the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) to abandon their armed struggle, two (2) female rebels voluntarily surrendered and peacefully laid down their arms at Headquarters, 26IB, Talacogon, ADS.

This is a timely surrender since the government is currently having its 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), an advocacy campaign that is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172 that supports the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.

AKA Denden and AKA Banjie both belong to Guerilla Front 88 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee operating in the municipality of San Luis and some part of La Paz, all of ADS. AKA Denden was a Militia ng Bayan (MB) for seven long years and a mother of eight children whom the youngest were twin and just three months old while AKA Banjie started in the armed group as a Platoon Medic for seven months but she was impregnated by her colleague.

“Dili na naku kaya nga magdugay pa sa kalihukan, gikinahanglan ko sa akong walo ka anak. Walay pulos ang ge pakibisog sa mga teroristang NPA tungod kay katungos usab namu nga manginabuhi nga malinawon uban among mga mahal sa kinabuhi ug mga anak,” AKA Denden said.

The CTG’s deceptive recruitment of women to be fighters for the communist cause and even become sex slaves where they are being physically and sexually abused is a grave violation of women’s rights and fundamental freedoms. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Reynald Romel A. Goce, Commanding Officer of 26IB, denounced the abuses committed by the CPP-NPA-NDF against its women members.

“You don’t have the right to abuse these women, many have spoken out about your violations against women and it must be stopped now. To the women, speak out and report to the authorities in case your rights are violated,” he said.

“We, in the Philippine Army, have the highest respect to the women sector not only in our country but also globally. Women deserve to be respected, loved, and taken care of. I am encouraging all other female rebels just like AKA Denden and AKA Banjie to surrender now. Go home, your kids and your family are waiting for you. Be a mother to your children and a child to your mother. Christmas is at its happiest if you are with your family, celebrating with joy and peace,” Lt. Col. Goce ended.

Kalinaw News: ARMY, LGU converge for Peaceful NPA family-oriented dialogue in Misamis Oriental

Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 30, 2020): ARMY, LGU converge for Peaceful NPA family-oriented dialogue in Misamis Oriental

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – A total of 17 families of New People’s Army (NPA) participated in a peace dialogue between Balingasag Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion (IB) at Barangay Mambuaya, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental last 20 November 2020.

The program aims to educate the participants about the different programs of the government and help them verbalize issues and concerns that will help them understand the root causes of conflicts.

During the open forum, the participants voiced out their concerns about their children being recruited by the CTGs. According to the participants, they desired and dreamed for a better future for their children and yet, the NPAs destroyed. They are worried of the possibility that they will only see their children, brothers, sisters, and husband lying dead after an encounter.

Meanwhile, Hon. Alexis Quina, Municipal Mayor of Balingasag firmly said, “We will do our duties and responsibilities to assure our constituents of the constant delivery of basic services and livelihood opportunities to address the different issues that are being exploited by the NPAs.”

Furthermore, Lieutenant Colonel Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58IB assured the participants that the Army will do its best to encourage them to surrender as early as possible to prevent the waste of life. “Let us work together to build a strong, peaceful, and resilient community. Rest assured that your Philippine Army, the LGU and the line agencies of the government will continue to deliver peace and development interventions for all the communities in the province.”

“I urge the remaining members of the CTGs to lay down your arms, return to the folds of the law and live a peaceful life with your families. Rest assured that we will assist you in your enrollment to E-CLIP.”

The AFP will continue to assist them and the local government units in providing manpower, mobility and equipment to help affected communities rise stronger,” General Gapay said.

Kalinaw News: Pursuit Operations Yield Three (3) High-powered Firearms in Paquibato District

Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 30, 2020): Pursuit Operations Yield Three (3) High-powered Firearms in Paquibato District

Brgy Pandaitan, PDDC – Government forces captured three (3) High-powered firearms and other NPA Terrorists belongings during an encounter against Communist Terrorist Group belonging to GF55, SRC5, SMRC under ARIAN JANE OCHETA RAMOS @MARIKIT.

The 27IB “Action” Troopers pursuit operations again resulted to an armed clash against GF55, 5SRC, SMRC. The 30-minute firefight led by LT PHILIP MALOGDOS PA and LT BERNARD VIERNES PA against more or less 20 NPA terrorists under @MARIKIT transpired at around 12:06 PM, November 29, 2020 at Sitio Pigdalahan, Brgy Pandaitan, Paquibato District, Davao City. The encounter resulted to the capture of three (3) M16 rifles, three (3) bandoliers, two (2) cellphones, one (1) commercial handheld radio, two (2) gas stoves, three (3) backpacks containing personal belongings and undetermined casualty on the enemy side. No one was hurt among the government troops.

The armed clash is the fifth engagement against GF55 within the month. It is a manifestation that the NPA terrorists are continuously losing their mass support thereby constricting them in areas where they have no influence and making them vulnerable to military operations. The NPA terrorist waning support from the masses is attributed to the sustained collaborative efforts of the government in reaching out communities and providing programs and services aimed to uplift the living conditions of the populace and the conduct of Community Support Program (CSP) which enlightened them about the NPA terrorist’s deception and spiteful intent. As such, the support of the community to the government and military has shaped the situation unfavorable to NPA terrorist group.

It can be recalled that since August to this date, several encounters against GF55 were recorded that have caused their significant decline due to neutralization of its members and capture of their war materiel.

LTC VICTORINO M SEÑO INF (GSC) PA, Commander, 27IB, 10ID, PA commends the troops for another successful feat in continuously hitting the NPA terrorists. With the concerted efforts of the government spearheaded by the City Government of Davao, I am optimistic that local communist armed conflict will soon end in the area of operations, he said.

Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander of 1003rd “RAPTOR” Brigade BGEN NOLASCO A MEMPIN PA also congratulates the troops. He also reiterates his message to remaining NPAs to lay down their arms and instead embrace peace. “In the spirit of Christmas, come to us and we would be happy to help you join with your family like your former comrades who are now happy and looking forward in celebrating Christmas and New Year with their respective families”, he added.

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) concluded day one of its Joint Inter-Operability Exercises under the ongoing AFP Joint Exercise DAGIT-PA on Sunday, November 29 at Zambales.

“The AFP takes pride in its soldiers, sailors, air personnel and marines for successfully completing the first set of Amphibious Operations being conducted under the 4th AJEX DAGIT-PA. We were able to gain more knowledge and further enhance our proficiency in sea to land operations through the joint exercises. We will be sure to use these skills and techniques in future operations from which our people will benefit in times of need,” said this year’s Exercise Director, Major General Edgard A. Arevalo.

The AJEX DAGIT-PA which stands for “Dagat-Langit-Lupa formally opened last November 23. This AFP-wide exercise aims to enhance interoperability during joint operations of the Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force and Philippine Army.

It seeks to develop the military’s skills, techniques and capabilities during rapid deployment of troops from ship to shore whether under hazardous circumstances or during natural disasters or hostile enemy actions.

This type of operation requires the unique ability to operate across air, land, and sea. It needs integrated Command and Control (C2) to achieve unity of effort, increased speed of action, and coordinated application of sea control and power projection capabilities.

For today, the following exercises were completed; Publication Exercises (PUBEX), Plotting Exercises (PlotTex), Maneuvering Exercises (ManNex), Semaphore Exercise (SemaphorEx), Flag Hoisting Exercises (FlagHex), and Helicopter Exercises (HeliOps). The assets used in the said exercises were the LD 601, FF 150, and AW109 Heli. On the vessels included, they are now anchored along Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority as participants form critique on Day 1 and prepare for Day 2 of exercises.

Organizers reported that all exercises were completed successfully and safely following strict health protocols prescribed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19.

“Despite the current health crisis that our nation is facing, the AFP will continue to strengthen our defense capabilities and operational effectiveness through military exercises such as AJEX DAGIT-PA. This is to better perform our sworn duty to protect our people and our nation from all kinds of threat,” Major General Arevalo said.
