President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has assured that the Philippines will continue to have strong relations with the United States (US) under his leadership.

Marcos made the commitment when he received the credentials of MaryKay Loss Carlson, US Ambassador to the Philippines, at Malacañang Palace in Manila on Friday.

"To echo your commitment that the United States is committed to the Philippines, the Philippines is also committed to the United States, committed to the continuing relationship between our two countries in the many dimensions and the multi-faceted nature of our relationship between the US and the Philippines,"
Marcos told Carlson.

Marcos said the traditional ties between the Philippines and the US continue to be "deep and enduring."

The Philippines and the US established formal diplomatic relations on July 4, 1946, the day when the Philippines gained its status as an independent and sovereign state.

The two countries have expanded and deepened bilateral cooperation in many fields, including defense and security, trade and commerce, and culture and education.

Marcos said the US will stay as the Philippines' "friend, partner, and an ally".

"In the face of a very volatile global political and economic situation, it is this from the ties that we have with our friends and perhaps, the longest of those, the United States of America, we depend on those ties to keep the stability of not only our country but also the region and for that matter, the world," he said.

US President Joe Biden earlier invited Marcos to visit the US.

Marcos was given the assurance that he will have "full diplomatic immunity" as head of state, despite a long-standing contempt order that had prevented him from entering the US.

On July 1, Marcos vowed to further boost the Philippines' relations with its allied countries, including the US, by "exploring areas of mutual interest".

"He confessed that he was part of the offensive attacks and violent schemes of the NPA in the province. 'Ruben' also stated that he wanted to start a new life and finally leave the armed struggle that hindered him and his family to live a normal life," she added.

Authorities had also taken the necessary measures in preparation for his enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The program shall pave the way to reintegrate him back into the community and help him begin a new chapter away from the influence of the rebel groups.

Meanwhile, an NPA combatant was collared by police operatives in Cawayan, Masbate on Thursday.

Posted to the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) Facebook Page (Jul 23, 2022): NPA na Nag-amok sa Barangay, Arestado matapos Isumbong ng mga Residente sa Legazpi City (NPA Rampant in Barangay, Arrested after Reported by Residents in Legazpi City)

Luna.

Army Activates Task Force vs. NPA in Central Mindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Military authorities here have activated a 500-strong task group that will help beef up security presence against the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Central Mindanao.

Major Gen. Roberto Capulong, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, said Wednesday the activation of the battalion-size unit was in support of the goal of dismantling NPA Guerilla Front Musa, the only remaining rebel unit in the area.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started,” Capulong said, adding that the task force's main strength will be concentrated in the area of responsibility of the Army’s 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade. It covers the provinces of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, and South Cotabato.

Despite the task force's creation as an ad hoc body, Capulong said it will fulfill the commitment of the 6ID to the commander-in-chief, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in the campaign against the communist rebel group.

“This will significantly contribute to our continuous quest for long-lasting peace, and sustainable development in Central Mindanao,” he said.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
The Anti-Terrorism Council also formally designated the NDF as a terrorist organization on June 23, 2021, citing it as “an integral and inseparable part” of the CPP-NPA that was created in April 1973.

75 ASG surrenderees now part of mainstream society

ZAMBOANGA CITY — About 75 members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) had already surrendered to soldiers of the Joint Task Force Sulu (JTF-S) since January this year and turned over 47 high-powered firearms and 13 low-powered firearms.

JTF-S Commander Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio said yesterday six more ASG voluntarily surrendered to the 1103rd Infantry Brigade in Barangay Bonbon, Patikul Sulu who were followers of the different group leaders and senior group leaders of the ASG operating in Sulu.

"The six ASG returnees brought with them three M1 Garand rifles, one M79 Grenade, and one M203 ammunition. The surrendered firearms are now under the custody of the 1103rd Infantry Brigade for proper disposition,” Patrimonio added.

The surrender of the six ASG members is a clear indication that most of them already know the true plan of the government to win the peace in the province of Sulu,” Patrimonio theorized.

He said “let us, therefore, sustain the gains and maintain the momentum to finally end terrorism and encourage the remaining ASG terrorist to lay down their firearms, be with their families, avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, and live peacefully. The JTF-S commander said.

According to 1103rd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Benjamin Batara Jr., the good collaborative efforts of the Municipal Task Force in Ending Local Armed Conflict of Patikul with the military and the community were responsible for convincing the ASG members to surrender and avail the government’s program.

Residents of Sulu lauded the commitment of the troops of 6th Special Forces Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Rafael Caido, 45th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Vicente Mabborang Jr., and other military units for their efforts in assisting the ASG members in their surrender.

The local populace was also commended for their sincerity in supporting the government’s campaign to end the local armed conflict in Sulu by providing precise information on the whereabouts of the ASG terrorist presence.

Kalinaw News: NPA na Nag-amok sa Barangay, Naaresto matapos Isumbong ng mga Residente sa Legazpi City

From Kalinaw News (Jul 23, 2022): NPA na Nag-amok sa Barangay, Naaresto matapos Isumbong ng mga Residente sa Legazpi City (NPA Rampant in Barangay, Arrested after Reported by Residents in Legazpi City)

Luna.
