ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police operatives have seized bomb-making components, firearms, and illegal drug paraphernalia in an intelligence-driven law enforcement operation against an organized crime group member in Zamboanga Sibugay, an official announced Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, said the war materials were seized in a raid at the hideout of Hussin Sali alias 'Hussin Askalani' in Sitio Sitin, Barangay Solar, Olutanga town at around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.
However, Ylagan said Sali was not around when the joint team of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) personnel and policemen, armed with a search warrant, swooped down on the suspect’s hideout.
Sali, 39, is a member of the Barahama Ali criminal group who is engaged in kidnapping, drug trafficking, and contract killing in Zamboanga Sibugay and neighboring provinces.
Seized from the hideout of Sali were one .45-caliber pistol with one magazine assembly loaded with seven live ammunition, one black holster, a hand grenade, two plastic bottles containing detonating cord and blasting cap, ammonium nitrate, concrete nails, rocks, a match box filled with used aluminum foil, eight pieces assorted lighters and a black eco bag.
He said a manhunt is ongoing against Sali, who was allegedly involved in the killing of Vice Mayor Restituto Calonge of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Engr. Edgar Pampanga on February 26.
The two victims were fatally shot in front of the Mabuhay municipal hall.
