President Rodrigo R. Duterte called on the 727 former combatants of the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas -- Revolutionary Proletarian Army -- Alex Boncayao Brigade – Tabara-Paduano Group to start a productive life with their loved ones by seizing the opportunities given to them by the government.
“This occasion marks another step closer towards building of a peaceful and prosperous nation. I am pleased to note that this peace building program has also a social and economic re-integration component through which the government provides support to enable returnees to become productive members of the society,” Duterte said in his message during the decommissioning and ceremonial disposition of 337 firearms, ammunition and explosives, held at Camp General Macario B. Peralta Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz on Thursday.
During the event, Duterte released to the rebel returnees certificates of availment of vegetable seeds, chicken, fruit tree seedlings, rice, corn and native pigs from the Department of Agriculture.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources also turned over a community-based forest management agreement and forest guard contracts while the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended PHP25,000 in immediate cash assistance for each former combatant.
The National Housing Authority provided a startup provision of shelter while all the 727 Kapatiran members were provided with Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) cards.
A PHP5 million coco oil mill project was also turned over to the province of Aklan while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority awarded a certificate of completion for well-water drilling training.
“Be assured of the government’s full support for your reintegration to the mainstream of the society,” Duterte said.
In his message, he acknowledged the efforts of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and other partners who worked through the years to “finally end the hostilities between the government and this armed group.”
“I urge all concerned parties to continue working together to ensure that the fruits of the years of negotiations will not go to waste. As we sustained the gains of peace building efforts, I enjoin all Filipinos to make the Philippines a better place to live for everyone where we can live in harmony and greater opportunities for an improved quality of life,” he said.
