Cotabato City – “The best scenario is for the BBL to pass,” this was the statement of MILF Peace Panel chair, also chair of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) Mohagher Iqbal to a group of Malaysian Journalists in a one-on-one interview held at BTC office on Sunday morning, November 01, in Cotabato City, when asked on what is the best scenario for the BBL.
A
team representing All-Asia Satellite Television & Radio Operators (ASTRO),
a Malaysian- based media network headed by its Executive Director Basir Siswo,
Azly Murad Ramly, Programme Director, and their company who met Iqbal at the
BTC office.
Siswo said
“Mindanao is part of our series of
documentation activities”.
“Mindanao is very important to us and we would like to
understand what is happening to the peace process” Siswo added.
After a
video clip presentation on BBL prepared by the BTC Communication Group, Iqbal
told the team that the MILF and the BTC are not losing hope although the
difficulties are very clear.
“At the
same time, we will proceed with whatever is necessarily to push forward the
proposed law in congress” Iqbal said.
In
response to a question on what the MILF can say if the BBL is not passed by the
congress, Iqbal said, “That is not the end of the world, we will pursue.”
“We can’t
blame ourselves, if they [law makers] will not pass the proposed law, because
we did our best.” Iqbal lamented.
Talking
about the obstacles in the passage of the proposed law, Iqbal cited three main
obstacles; first is the time constraint, second is the election fever and third
one is the hatred against the Muslims in this country” Iqbal added.
When the
group asked how the Bangsamoro can move on from decades of conflict, Iqbal said
that there is no magic formula for peace. “We likened the BBL to a medicine. If
an undiluted BBL is passed, it will be the beginning for the betterment of our
people, with Justice and strong security institution.” Iqbal elaborated.
ASTRO is a
broadcasting company based in Malaysia
founded on June 1, 1996.
