Nadwa Islamiya and advocacy on BBL held in Pikit, North Cotabato

Pikit, North Cotabato- Moro community leaders, religious leaders and peoples’ organizations in this town joined hands in the conduct of Nadwa Islamiya and advocacy on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) to promote and sustain the gains of GPH-MILF Peace process, on November 01 at Ma’had Kutawato As-Shimaley Al Islamie, Barangay Manaulanan in the said town. 

The program was attended by 1,108 local residents, adjacent barangays and municipalities of the province of North Cotabato.

Officers from the Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) and representative from Moro religious sector were the invited resource persons. 

The opening remarks and welcome address were delivered by religious leaders who acknowledged that the big number of participants who attended the occasion is a manifestation of their full support to the peace process and passage of the proposed BBL by congress.  

Sheikh Siddick Abdullah, BLMI area Coordinator on Moro Religious Leaders (MRL’s) delivered the overview of the program, while Sheikh Ismael Muhammad acted as master of ceremonies. 

Sheikh Abdulsalam Alabat, BLMI Extension Service Unit officer gave emphasis on the essentiality of participation by everyone in peace-building advocacy and other related efforts that will contribute in raising public awareness and promoting the gains of the peace process and support to the passage of BBL through joining peace advocacy programs.

Mr. Tirso Tahir. BLMI Research Unit officer gave updates on the status of BBL, the peace process and other related issues pertaining to the peace agreements.

He expressed his optimism that Congress will pass a BBL that conforms with the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) as they reflects the aspiration of the Bangsamoro people after a long and painstaking negotiations and bloody revolutionary war. 

“Your consistent support as well as the international community to the peace process can help sustain the gains of the peace process and the enactment of the BBL”, Tahir stressed. 

Sheikh Abu Bar’rah Abdullah, a prominent religious leader in his presentation emphasized politics in Islam and its correlating aspects and relevance to the peace process and the BBL. 

He told his audience that the Primer on BBL Primer that were distributed by BLMI to Moro Religious Leaders (MRL’s) provides a relevant Islamic perspective and answers to most frequent ask questions (FAQ’s) regarding the GPH-MILF Peace process and BBL as well.

At the end of the program, organizers expressed their gratitude to the participants for their active involvement and to the resource persons for sharing valuable information and updates on the current status of the peace process and the proposed Bangsamoro Law.
