FIRST district Representative Celso Lobregat has been dismayed over the dismissal of a criminal case filed against a suspect in the botched abduction of a government physician in Zamboanga City.
The Office of the City Prosecutor dismissed the case on Friday against Kausar Atari, 28, after the would-be victim, Dr. Armando Iturralde, did not submit his sworn affidavit.
Iturralde is one of the physicians of the City Health Office and is the elder brother of Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde.
Atari barged into Iturralde's clinic in the village of Talon-Talon and tried to drag the would-be victim to a waiting vehicle but failed since the physician resisted and managed to get loose.
The policemen cornered Atari at an internet café, which is also owned by Iturralde. The suspects' getaway vehicle was also recovered.
"I really felt not only disappointed, I felt dismayed," Lobregat said, citing Atari was arrested yet Iturralde did not pursue the case.
Lobregat said such incident will not only demoralize the police but also the military.
"Sayang ang efforts ng police," Lobregat added.
Meanwhile, Councilor Percival Ramos said the residents of Barangay Talon-Talon, especially the neighbors of the Iturralde, were surprised by the event.
Ramos, like the Iturraldes, is also a resident of Talon-Talon village.
