Three Army enlisted personnel were killed while 13 others were wounded following an attack by suspected New People's Army rebels in Pinukpuk town in Kalinga late Monday evening, a police report said Tuesday.
The report said the occurred around 11 p.m. at Sitio Allangigan, Barangay Apatan, while members of the 51st Division Reconaissance Company and 50th Infantry Battalion were headed back to their base.
An improvised bomb exploded at the right portion of the road, which sparked a firefight that lasted about 25 minutes.
The police report said about 30 insurgents positioned themselves at the rip rap of the right portion of the road and fired at the government troops shortly after the explosion.
No rebel casualties were mentioned in the report.
