5 TERRORISTS believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) operating under ASG leader Furuji Indama in Basilan Province were killed while 5 firearms were recovered at the encounter site in Sitio Limuno, Barangay Pres. Roxas, RT Lim, this province, Wednesday (Sept. 9) morning, confirmed the Commanding Officer of 102nd Brigade Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas.
The gun battle between 44th IB and terrorists group ensued around 2:00 to 2:30 daybreak while on patrol operation in response to intelligence reports of sightings of about 15 armed men in the coastal vicinity of the said place.
“Pagdating ng ating mga sundalo sa area , nagka encounter na,” BGen Nicolas said.
“Mahirap pasukin yung lugar kaya nag request tayo ng air support at nag deploy rin ng navy patrol sa lugar,” he explained.
BGen Nicolas revealed the 5 cadavers and firearms from the enemy side were recovered by government troops along with elements of the Municipal Police Station and the SOCO while conducting clearing operation in the area early this morning.
“May mga nakatakas, and we are still in hot pursuit against these enemies,” he said.
“May pakiusap lang tayo sa mga MILF na hindi sila ang tinutugis natin, hindi sila ang kalaban, kaya steady lang sila, huwag silang gumalaw. Ayaw na nating lumaki ang sitwasyon kaya nakikipag ugnayan rin tayo sa kanila.”
BGen Nicolas said they do continuous coordination with the LGUs and other government agencies concerned with regards the situation and assured the public of a security visibility, checkpoints and heightened security in the province.
Further, he assured that highways in going in and out of Sibugay passing RT Lim is safe for unhampered delivery of essentials and Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) specially in this time of health pandemic .
BGen Nicolas appealed to public to remain calm but vigilant and for strong cooperation from the community and to report any suspicious looking persons, movement and activities to proper authorities. (By Jocelyn Alvarez)
