Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (Nov 26, 2019): Loose firearms handed over in Lanao del Sur
A total of 4 high-powered firearms were handed over by the locals of Butig, Lanao del Sur to the troops of the 49th Infantry Battalion at 1pm of November 25, 2019.
The firearms consist of one caliber 50 Barrett sniper rifle, one M203 grenade launcher, two handguns, magazines, and ammunitions.
“The successful handing over of firearms was made possible through the concerted effort and intensified collaboration among our troops, local communities, local chief executives, and other stakeholders,” said Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, 49th Infantry Battalion commander.
Meanwhile, Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander said that “This is part of our campaign against proliferation of loose firearms so that the locals would feel more secured and safe in their daily activities.”
Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan, Jr., acting commander of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan lauded the troops, the local government unit, and stakeholders of Butig for this accomplishment.
“I urge everyone to continue our efforts in pursuing lasting peace not just for Mindanao but for the whole country. Let us conquer the challenges ahead of us and step up the momentum in sustaining our gains for our common aspiration”, said Brig. Gen. Gaerlan.
“My congratulations to the troops of the 49IB for their numerous accomplishments that contributed a lot to the accomplishment of the command’s mission,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom commander.
