CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – Two members of Abu Sayyaf group surrendered to Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, 8:30 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2019.

“The two were identified as alias JOLO USMAN, and alias JUL, are residents of Talipao, Jolo, Sulu and operating under Sibih Pisih, one of the notorious leader of Abu Sayyaf Group,”
, said Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, 44th IB Commander.

“Both however lie-lowed in Sibugay province in the year 2016”,
added Templonuevo.

The two also yielded two Garand rifles and now undergoing custodial debriefing as of this posting.


According to Col. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander, who has operational jurisdiction of Zamboanga Sibugay “We continuously encourage terrorist groups and their supporters to surrender and submit themselves to the folds of the law and become productive Filipino citizens”.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., Acting Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces), commended the efforts of the troops for the successful surrender of the two ASG member.

“Your 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, remains steadfast in its commitment to attain just and lasting peace in our area of operation thru our campaign against terrorist and other threat groups,” said Gaerlan.

“Likewise, we thank the constituents and other stakeholders for the trust and confidence to our troops who relentlessly strive to sustain the peace and security in Western Mindanao,” Gaerlan added.
