Five suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were wounded in an encounter with Army soldiers at a remote village in Caramoan town in Camarines Sur on Tuesday.
Major Ricky Aguilar, public affairs chief of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, said the soldiers were on patrol when they had a five-hour gun battle with some 50 rebels in Barangay Lidong that started around 2 p.m.
He said the clash led to the wounding of five rebels, who were brought by their companions while fleeing.
Earlier that day, Army soldiers also encountered about 30 rebels in Barangay Itangon, Bula, Camarines Sur town at around 6:30 a.m.
The fleeing rebels left behind three backpacks with personal belongings during the 30-minute firefight.
