CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – After more than a year, the search is over for a female medical officer of the New People’s Army (NPA), who was killed in a massive purge in the Communist movement, and reportedly buried in an agricultural mountainous area in Bukidnon.

Authorities were led to the burial site by a former rebel, who had recently surrendered to government troops in Bukidnon.

Search and retrieval operation of the
murdered female NPA medical officer was jointly conducted by the military and police in Sitio San Martin, Barangay Adtuyon, Pangantucan town, Bukidnon at around 12:30 Monday afternoon (July 16), said Maj. Frankjo C. Boral, Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer of the First Special Forces Battalion, told The Manila Bulletin on Wednesday.


The skeletal remains and clothing of
Merlyn H. Panta, alyas “Genevive”, alleged medical officer Guerilla front 68 (GF 68) of the CPP-NPA North central Mindanao Regional Committee was found and buried in a shallow grave in the vicinity of Sitio San Martin, Barangay Adtuyon of that same town.


She was allegedly stabbed to death by the sub-leader of the guerilla front last June 2018 for having been suspected of being government spy, Boral said.

“The cadaver was successfully recovered and was immediately brought to Pangantucan funeral homes for investigation and proper disposition,” Boral said.
