The Abu Sayyaf bandits have released a town councilor they seized over a month ago in the province of Sulu, a top military official disclosed Thursday.
Released was Councilor Ezzedin Suod Tan of Jolo, the capital of the province of Sulu.
Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu commander, confirmed to the Philippine News Agency that Tan was released at around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday.
But Sobejana said they had yet to get the complete details surrounding the release of Tan.
“I offered to the family our hospital at Camp Baustista, Busbus, Jolo, Sulu for his medical examination and requested for his debriefing as part of the procedure. Will provide you the full details later,” Sobejana said.
Tan was seized by the Abu Sayyaf bandits around on September 27 at the boundary of Barangays Timbangan and Tagbak in Indanan town.
Tan was with a group of 12 bikers traversing the road between Timbangan and Tagbak when six Abu Sayyaf bandits waylaid them and forced Tan to board on a Tamaraw FX.
At the time of the incident, the group was returning to Jolo after making a turn in the town of Maimbung.
Tan is also a member of the Tausog Bikers Club aside from being a councilor of Jolo, Sulu.
Octavio Dinampo, Save the Sulu Movement spokesperson, earlier disclosed he received information that the abductors of Tan was led by Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Alden Bagadi also known as Sayning.
