From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 3): 2 militiamen killed in ambush
Two militiamen were killed in an ambush staged by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in the province of Basilan, the police said Friday.
Senior Supt. Nickson Muksan, Basilan police director, identified the slain militiamen as Samie Jairulla and Abdulla Tabjili, both detailed with the detachment in Barangay Kaumpamatsaken, Sumisip town.
Muksan said the ambush happened at around 7:50 a.m. Friday at Sitio Dak-Dak, Barangay Kaumpamatsaken.
He said investigation showed the two militiamen were aboard a motorcycle on the way to Barangay Buli-Buli to purchase rice and other foodstuff when they were ambushed.
He said both militiamen, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, instantly died.
The attackers carted away two M-16 Armalite rifles and fled towards west direction from the place of the ambush.
Troops have been deployed to track down the fleeing Abu Sayyaf bandits while blocking positions were also established.
