From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 29): Suspects in NoCot village chair slay hunted
Police and military forces here are hunting down two men riding in tandem on a motorbike for killing a village chair in the province Thursday.
Supt. Gilbert Tuzon, Midsayap town police chief, said several witnesses have come forward to provide police investigators with information that could lead to the whereabouts of the suspects.
He identified the victim as Mama Duluan, 52, chair of Barangay Tumbras, a village bordering Maguindanao and North Cotabato.
Tuzon, citing police investigation, said Duluan was driving a multi-cab vehicle heading for home after he fetched his child and a relative from school when a motorcycle with two men overtook him at past 5 p.m.
One of the men shot Duluan using a cal. 45 pistol. He died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds while his child and relative both escaped unharmed.
Police are eyeing “rido” (family feud) as the motive of the attack against Duluan, who had no armed escorts unlike other village officials in North Cotabato.
“We are still investigating other possible motives,” Tuzon said.
It was not clear if Duluan was armed or not.
