Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim told a press conference on Sunday after the unveiling of a peace monument built inside the camp that the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is more importante than the national elections.
“It is not only the fate of politicians but the Bangsamoro and Filipino in general that are at stake”, Murad said when asked on the status of BBL as the election campaign period is fast approaching.
Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez, chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on the BBL told Mindanews last week that the 28 essential provisions of BBL that the committes deleted and wanted to be restored by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission will not happen.
“Not one of the 28 provisions will be restored,” Rodriguez said as quoted by Mindanews.
Al Haj Murad told the media that Rodriguez is not in position to represent the members of the congress for it is a collective body that agrees and enacts laws.
The MILF Chair admitted that the time is very short but he pointed out that there is still enough time for congress to pass the original BBL if they are really decided.
The House of Representastives had agreed to vote on the bill this Wednesday, January 27.
The press conference held at the plenary hall of MILF Central Committee in Camp Darapanan was attended by local and national print, radio and TV reporters.
