From the MILF Website (Dec 28): Bangsamoro medical mission helps Typhoon Pablo victims
After its landfall on December 4, 2012, Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) brought massive devastation in the eastern portion of Mindanao. Davao Region is one of the seriously stricken areas with approximately 4.7 million individuals affected. Relief and rescue operations are in full-swing and massive help has been continuously called for especially by the victims. In response to the emergency situation, the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), Bangsamoro Medical Society (BMS), academe, and other Bangsamoro civil society organizations jointly carried out relief distributions and a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) – funded medical mission to more than 1000 affected families in Davao Oriental last December 21 to 24, 2012. A total of 662 families in Barangays Central and Kinablangan, Municipality of Baganga were provided with relief assistance (food and non-food).
To heap on the relief efforts, medical assistance and psychosocial interventions were also extended to at least 440 patients in Barangays Kinablangan and Dapnan in the same municipality. Dr. Ibrahim Pangato, Jr., Dr. Sherjan Kalim, and Dr. Zhamir Umag were physicians from BMS and Dr. Rizaldy Piang, also a BMS member and at the same time Vice-Chairperson of the BDA spearheaded the medical team. A pool of volunteers from the BDA, BMS and Bangsamoro Disaster Information and Response Center were also mobilized to serve and contribute to the relief efforts.
