TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will dig deeper into the recent attack in Calbayog City that killed four people and wounded another when shot by a group of armed men.

PNP Eastern Visayas regional director, Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, said Monday he personally inspected the crime scene and asked the Samar police provincial office to speed up the investigation.

On April 14, seven armed men attacked a family riding a tricycle and a single motorcycle carrying a village official along the road in Victory village in Calbayog City.

Three of the victims died on the spot. They were identified as Vicente Luzong, 45; Rachel Ann Luzong, 14; and Angelo Lustico, 43, motorcycle driver. Emmie Tomnob, 46, secretary of La Paz village, died a day after while undergoing treatment.

Identified as wounded was Lailanie Dealagdon, 30, a resident of Osmeña village. Two other passengers survived the attack.

The two survivors told the police that seven unidentified armed men wearing black shirts suddenly appeared and shot them.

“I am deeply saddened upon receiving this report. Despite doing our best in maintaining peace and order in the whole of Eastern Visayas, this kind of incident still happened. With this, we assure the families of the victims and the public that we are conducting a thorough and speedy investigation,” Marbil said.

Samar police provincial director, Col. Peter Limbauan, said they are now examining the recovered fired cartridges from .45 -caliber and 5.56mm guns.
