Activist still missing

The search is still on for the activist reported missing by his family to the police on April 6.

Iver Larit, 51-year-old urban poor organizer and education officer of Kadamay-Negros, was reported by his son Alvin, to have been missing up to this time.

Alvin, in a radio interview, said that his father left their home in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City on April 5, riding a bike to attend a meeting of the urban group Kadamay.

But he failed to return home, and there was no communication from him since he had disappeared, Ivan added.

Kadamay and its allied progressive organizations called for the release of Larit, as they suspect that he was the person being insinuated in text messages to be the next target of a “Kill Marsiling Kill” list.

Karapatan-Negros said that Larit was the target of many-sanctioned attacks throughout the year.

In 2011, he was detained for 8 months on trumped-up charges and but was eventually dismissed for lack of substantial evidence, it added.

Despite the attacks, Larit continued to organize urban poor communities which continue to face threats of demolition in Bacolod City and are deeply affected by Duterte’s anti-people economic policies amid the pandemic.

Based on the initial investigations of Bacolod City Police Office Station 7, Larit has no pending criminal records at the station.

Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday said that they will help the Bacolod City Police Office in their investigation on the reported disappearance of Larit.
