President Rodrigo Duterte is yet to choose the next Commanding General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Army spokesman Marine Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo said Sunday.
In a statement, Arevalo said the Board of Generals had forwarded their shortlist of candidates to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and the list included three 3-star generals, and two 2-star generals.
“All possess the attributes of integrity, competence, experience, command and managerial expertise to lead the more than 180,000 soldiers tasked to protect the people and secure the land,” Arevalo said.
The Philippine Army is currently being led by Lieutenant General Macairog Sabiniano Alberto, who was chosen by President Duterte in October last year.
Alberto will turn 56, the compulsory retirement age for soldiers, this month.
