In Western Visayas, the Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion said it is monitoring at least 15 such officials in Iloilo and Capiz.
Lt. Col. Joel Benedict Batara, commander of the 61st IB, said they initially started monitoring 37 politicians backing the rebel groups.
Of the 37 politicians, 15 won as mayors and Sangguniang Bayan members in Iloilo and Capiz.
Batara said these officials may allow the rebel groups to take advantage in the remote areas.
He warned officials supporting the rebel groups can face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10168 or the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.
