The Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) - Biliran Community Defense Center (CDC) based in Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran, is in need of army reservists.
Maj. Edward C. Jornales, Philippine Army reserve operations officer, announced during PIA-Biliran’s Pulong-Pulong ng Bayan over Radyo Natin-Naval, that the Biliran CDC endeavors to establish one battalion of 532 active reservists. As of this writing, ARESCOM-Biliran CDC has over a hundred active volunteers.
Jornales informed that in order to qualify in the Army Reserve Command, an applicant must be 18 years old and above and a graduate of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) with serial number. Those without serial numbers must undergo the Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT).
He said entry to the army as volunteer or reservist entails no salary or honorarium. They only earn credits for every hour of active duty rendered which they can use in applying for promotion or entry to the Philippine Army for a regular military service.
In addition, volunteers are only provided free regular trainings with subsistence allowance for the duration of the training, Jornales said.
He said Army reservists are localized and are only called for community works and rescue operations, and war is their final call of duty as the troops’ last recourse for the country’s defense.
Army reservists are classified into ready reserve for 18-35 years old, standby reserve for 36-51 years old, and retirees reserve or the think tank for 51 years old and above, Jornales added.
